We were appointed by a couple to carry out a declutter and clean of a 2 bedroom second floor flat in Bethnal Green, London Borough of Tower Hamlets. We also had to carry out a thorough one-off deep clean.

The property belonged to an elderly gentleman whose home had sadly become neglected over the years due to the man’s ill health. Because of his ill health he had to be hospitalised for a period of time which gave his concerned son and daughter-in-law the opportunity to do something about the cluttered flat.

They hadn’t been inside the property in over 5 years as the father was too embarrassed to let anyone in due to the clutter and filthy conditions. When the couple did finally manage to see inside the property they were both shocked and very saddened to see their loved living in such conditions.

The father was hospitalised for 7 days so they wanted to declutter and clean his home ready for when he returned. The couple attempted to carry out the task themselves, but become so overwhelmed by everything they stopped and decided to call in the experts.

And that’s where Nationwide House Clearance came in. The son was very worried and embarrassed, but we reassured him that this is quite a common problem in the UK and its something we specialise in.

With the clock ticking down to the date the father would be returning, we requested photographs of the clutter and a basic list of what they wanted salvaged from the decluttering. After we received this information we sent the couple a quote which they were happy with.

As a result we sent 4 of our experienced, fully trained and uniformed guys to carry out the declutter and clean, using our crew cab box van.

The men arrived at 8.00am and immediately spent the first two hours going through a list of what was needed to stay and what could go and then they set about removing all the junk and clutter such as decaying food waste, a soiled dirty old mattress, dirty worn clothing, magazines, books, DVDs and other assorted junk.

Broken or damaged and old furniture was also removed. In total the men took away 2 van loads of clutter and junk, recycling 60%.

After the decluttering the men gave the property a thorough one-off deep clean, including the cleaning of several appliances, all woodwork, doors, internal windows, flooring and carpets and the bathroom and kitchen.

It took the best part of a day, starting at 8 and finish at 6, to declutter and clean the flat.

Three weeks after the declutter and clean we checked up on the father and couple to see how things were going and we were delighted to find out just how happy the father was to be living clutter free in a nice clean home.
