County Durham, Northumberland dead animal carcass removal case study
Job description: Dead animal carcass removal & disposal County Durham, Northumberland
Client: Durham County Council
Area: Northumberland
Number of staff: 2
Time taken: 30 minutes
Nationwide House Clearance were appointed by Durham County Council to dig up, exhume, and dispose of a dead animal that had illegally been buried on a public authority owned pathway in County Durham, Northumberland.
Nationwide sent two of their experienced, fully trained, insured and uniformed men to carry out the work which took a total of 30 minutes to complete.
The animal, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog which we understood to have been dead for over 3 weeks was buried by its owner who had dug about 1ft down, wrapping the carcass in a sheet and then placing it in a plastic see through bag.
A neigbour informed on the owner as the dead animal had been buried on a public pathway which is illegal and as such we were contacted by the local authority to remove and dispose of the animal carcass.
It wasn’t the nicest work we have ever undertaken as we are all animal lovers here at Nationwide and we especially sympathised with the owner. But in such cases other animals would have sniffed out the decaying carcass and would have ended up digging it up themselves or worse still scavenging on it.
This was an environmental issue and a health and safety hazard for the whole neighbourhood. We were very discreet, sympathetic and removed the animal in 30 minutes. We then placed it into an incineration bag and took it away to be disposed of both legally and correctly.
We can exhume any illegally buried animal carcass regardless of animal or size and we can also remove any dead animal from a property, be it rats, mice, pigeons or pets. We hold all the necessary certificates, licences and insurance to carry out such extreme and unpleasant work.
This is what the customer had to say about our service:
“We were very happy with the work carried out by Nationwide’s men, they were extremely polite, professional and showed discretion and compassion throughout. We will be sure to use their services again no doubt.” Lynne Chapman – Durham County Council
